Manual of Arms
Information used by permission from:
Infanterie Regiment 134, 44 Infanterie Division "Hoch- Und Deutchmeister". Loads of great info on this site.
When ordered to attention ( stillgestanden ) the soldier stands with both heels together and toe pointed outward creating slightly less than a 90 degree angle. Body weight should be evenly distributed on the balls and heels of both feet. Knees should touch slightly. The upper body must be held rigid, chest slightly expanded, shoulders held normally and at equal height. The arms are partially crooked with elbows tilted outward and wrists and fingertips of both hands touching the thigh. The middle finger rests on the pant seam while the thumb rests beside the finger. The head is held high, chin pointed forward and eyes locked to the front. Overall, your posture should be straight and slightly tensed but shouldn't look forced.
When placed at ease ( Rührt Euch ) The soldat moves his left foot forward and lowers his arms. He may move his torso, but will not speak without permission. Keep your right foot in place so as not to lose your position in rank.
The order to return to attention is "Achtung!"
When ordered to shoulder arms ( Das Gewehr - über! ) do so in the following order:

1. The right hand brings the rifle up vertically up towards the center of the torso, barrel facing to the right and lower band at about collar height. The left hand seizes the rifle directly beneath the right hand.

2. The right hand, without pause, releases the rifle and regrasps it at the area of the bolt with the right thumb lying parallel to the rifles length.

3. The right hand rotates and guides the rifle to the left shoulder. The left hand releasing its grip, regrasps the buttstock with the butt of the rifle nestled between the thumb and fingers of the left hand.

Correct positioning: The left forearm should be lightly the cartridge pouches, the rifle should be lined up with the left tunic button (top pocket ), the chamber should be approximately one hand's width from the collar and the stock should rest against the cartridge pouches.

4. The right arm quickly returns to the same position as when at attention.

When ordered to Order Arms ( Gewehr, ab! ):

1. From the position of shoulder arms ( Das Gewehr - über ), the left hand rotates the rifle so that the barrel faces the right and the buttstock rests flat against the left thigh. The right hand grasps the rifle at the point directly above where the forestock touches the left shoulder.

2. After a short pause, the right hand brings the rifle - rotating the rifle in the process - to the ground at the outside of the right foot with the barrel facing to the left.

3. The left arm quickly returns to the same position as when at attention, while the right hand rotates so that the barrel faces the rear with the thumb curled behind the barrel to keep it secure.

On the command to present arms (Achtung! Präsentiert das - Gewehr! ):
1. From the position of shoulder arms,  the left hand lowers and rotates the rifle so the barrel faces to the right while simultaneously the right hand grasps the pistol grip.
2. The left hand releases the buttplate and regrasps the rifle forestock at the back of the rear sight ( the thumb should lay along the left side of the rear sight ). Quickly, with both hands, rotate the rifle one quarter turn in one clean motion ( the barrel should come to face the left chest and the receiver ring should rest on the right corner of the left cartridge pouch ). Simultaneously,  the fingers of the right hand must be stretched out directly beneath the trigger guard on the pistol grip, with the thumb curled behind the rifle and directly beneath the safety switch.
To recover: "Das Gewehr - über!"
1. The left hand rotates the rifle so the barrel faces to the right. The right hand grasps the bolt area and guides the rifle to the left shoulder. The left hand releases its grip and grasps the buttstock. The right arm quickly returns to the same position as at attention.
